Hyde Park Dental Care is your Emergency Dental Centre

If you have, or think you may have, a dental emergency; don’t panic. At Hyde Park Dental Care in Sydney, we will make sure you are seen as soon as possible.

Accidents, injuries and emergencies can be extremely stressful for everyone involved. When it comes to dental emergencies our team at Hyde Park Dental Care can provide the assistance you need to correct the problem and keep you smiling.

What is a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is much like any other emergency, except of course it is your mouth and teeth that are affected. We encourage our patients to get in contact with us as soon as possible if they think they have a dental emergency. Below are some examples of emergencies that will require immediate attention.

Your tooth has been knocked out…

Leaving a gap due to a missing tooth can cause oral health problems (not to mention it’s also aesthetically unpleasing). We encourage our patients to call us immediately should their tooth be knocked out due to an accident. Below is a step by step process to follow as soon as possible on what to do in this instance:

  • Place the tooth in a container of milk, salt water or one’s own saliva.
  • If these are unavailable, use plain water.
  • If you are unable to get to the dental surgery immediately:
    • Gently rinse the tooth in warm water. Don’t touch the root.
    • Permanent tooth:  Carefully insert the tooth back in place.
    • Baby tooth:  Do not try to pack a baby tooth back into its socket.  Place it in cold milk or water and bring it with you to the dental professional.
  • See your dental professional within 30 minutes if possible.

You have chipped your tooth…

This happens fairly often and can be embarrassing if the tooth is in the ‘smile zone’. At Hyde Park Dental Care we set aside time during our day so that we are able to attend to emergency appointments without delay. The damaged tooth can often be sensitive and should be treated as soon as possible.

You are suffering from severe toothache…

If you have been suffering from severe toothache you may have a cracked tooth, dental cavity, loose teeth or tooth or gum abscess, which definitely constitutes a dental emergency.

You have lost a filling…

If you have lost a filling your tooth nerves will probably become exposed and can cause you significant pain. We recommend placing a piece of sugarless gum (as a temporary fix) into the cavity until you can make it into our Sydney practice.

The importance of seeking help in an emergency

It is extremely important to see a dentist in the case of an emergency, not only to deal with the pain but to preserve your oral health. Missing teeth can cause your surrounding teeth to move out of place which can cause problems when eating, speaking or to your overall facial structure. Here at Hyde Park Dental Care we provide same-day emergency appointments to ensure your emergency is treated as soon as possible. Those patients who experience an emergency after hours will be re-directed to our after hours emergency line.
