Restore Your Smile with Hyde Park Dental Care

If you need to replace or protect a tooth Hyde Park Dental Care has the solution

Our smiles are important for a number of reasons; the most important is our health. The best tooth is your natural tooth, which is why saving teeth, if possible, is so important. At Hyde Park Dental we have restorative dentistry dental crowns and root canal treatments which are geared towards saving your teeth so you can benefit from your natural smile.

In the unfortunate event that you are missing teeth we have solutions for that too: dental implants. Missing teeth can cause further problems to our oral health such as gum disease and bone loss—bone loss in the jaw can cause further tooth loss. As for gum disease it has been linked to such illness as stroke, diabetes, heart attacks and even cancer.

  3. Root canal therapy

Root canal treatment and why it is important

Root canal treatment—unfairly—gets a lot of bad press. It does not, as many believe it does, cause a great deal of pain or discomfort. Root canal treatment is performed under a local anaesthetic and should be no more uncomfortable than getting a filling.

The point of a root canal treatment is to save the tooth, before root canal treatment if a tooth was infected, it would have to be extracted—now thankfully dentists have the technology to save the tooth.

Porcelain Crowns and Bridges

Crowns are used to protect a damaged tooth. The affected tooth is shaved down and a strong cap cemented in place to strengthen and protect the tooth. Crowns become necessary when a tooth is cracked, made weaker by a filling or after root canal treatment.

It takes two appointments to have a crown placed. During the first appointment, a mould is taken of your teeth and then shaped for the crown. While the permanent crown is being made in our lab a temporary crown will be placed over the tooth. The second appointment the temporary crown is taken off and your new crown is cemented in place.

Bridges are used to replace a missing tooth: crowns are fitted to the teeth on either side of the gap and then the bridges are attached to those crowns. Bridges are more secure than dentures.

Dental Implants are one of the healthiest ways to replace missing teeth

It is very important to place missing teeth. A missing tooth can cause a myriad of problems. For example, the teeth on either side of a gap will shift in an attempt to cover the gap; additionally, because a missing tooth can cause bone loss, this means that a person with a missing tooth runs the risk of losing more teeth.

Dental implants are titanium screws which are surgically inserted into the jaw to act as a tooth root. Over a period of months, the dental implant and your jaw will fuse together creating a permanent foundation for a prosthetic tooth. The great thing about the prosthetic tooth attached to the dental implant is that it will look and feel just like your other teeth. This means that you can eat and drink again normally.
